Remote work is becoming increasingly more common, but not everyone is cut out for it. But if you find yourself in a remote work environment and aren't sure how to make it work for you, you can do a few things to improve your skills. Focusing on time management will make a massive difference in your performance.

Choose Your Most Productive Hours

It's okay that not everyone is a morning person or a night owl. Everyone has their own circadian rhythm, and our bodies and minds work best when we follow it. Create your remote schedule to encompass your most productive hours if you can. For example, if you're a morning person, start your day early and accomplish as much as possible when feeling motivated and fresh.

Use Time Blocking

One helpful technique for someone working from home is to time block your day or week. This is a productivity technique where you can divide your day or week into smaller segments dedicated to specific tasks. It works in conjunction with calendaring, so when you block off time for a particular project, you can focus on that and not be interrupted.

Consider the Pomodoro Method

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed in the late 1980s to enhance productivity. You use a kitchen timer or the timer on your phone to break work down into intervals. The technique suggests using time blocks of about 25 minutes at a time. These blocks are then separated by short breaks.

Make a List

Of course, making an old-fashioned to-do list is one of the most tried and true methods for managing your time when working from home. You have a visual reminder of those items by writing down what you need to accomplish each day. You will also have the satisfaction of crossing those items off the list once they are completed. This will keep you on task and maintain your productivity levels.
